The Coral Castle Mystery
About 30 miles south of Miami, Florida, in a town called Homestead, lies an unusual—some would say impossible—structure, composed of coral rock. Called the Coral Castle, it has a colorful past. A feast of coral imagery, the site lies behind massive 8' high coral rock walls, protecting it from the sprawling, suburban city of Homestead. It was the life's work of a reclusive Latvian immigrant named Edward Leedskalnin.
Coral Castle is a stone structure created by the Latvian-American Edward Leedskalnin. Coral Castle was built in the early 20th century. Edward Leedskalnin was a eccentric and recluse man. Edward Leedskalnin was born in Riga, Latvia on August 10th, 1887. When Ed was 26 years old, he was engaged to be married to his one true Love ... Edward Leedskalnin was jilted by his 16-year-old fiancée Agnes Scuffs in Latvia, just one day before the wedding. He would never marry and would spend 30 years of his life building a Coral Castle and its surrounding buildings, for his alleged 'Sweet Sixteen'. Each piece of this coral creation tells a story. Coral Castle is an open-air home made entirely of oolitic limestone,( coral rock).
After wandering around the U.S. and Canada for several years, Leedskalnin settled in Florida City for health reasons; he had been diagnosed with tuberculosis. He began building his coral home in 1920. Then in 1936, when a planned new subdivision of homes threatened his privacy, Leedskalnin moved his entire home 10 miles to Homestead, where he completed it, and where it still stands as a tourist attraction.

Edward Leedskalnin disputed contemporary science and believed all matter consisted of magnets which could produce measurable phenomena, and electricity. Ed would say he had rediscovered the laws of weight, measurement, and leverage" and that these concepts involved the relationship of the Earth to celestial alignments. He claimed to see beads of light which he believed to be the physical presence of nature's magnetism and life force, or what we term today, 'Chi'. Many people report that he used harmonics combined with grid energies and celestial alignments to do his work.
Leedskalnin devised a means to single-handedly lift and maneuver blocks of coral weighing up to thirty tons. Using his closely guarded secret, he was able to quarry and construct an entire complex of monolithic coral blocks in an arrangement that reflected his own unique character. The cutting techniques of the ancient pyramid builders have been an ongoing topic for debate, they have not received the same attention and controversy as the methods that were used to lift and transport cyclopean blocks of stone. His creation of Rock Gate, later to be called Coral Castle, ranks with the wonders of our world... with the mysteries in stone on Easter Island and Stonehenge in England. To present day, no one, neither scientist nor engineer, can explain how he accomplished this Herculean project.
Ed Leedskalnin left behind the blueprints of nature, a Secret Knowledge of the Ancients. It is the base unit for all structure in creation. Perhaps to illustrate ancient sciences that defy gravity? Or maybe just sheer, raw human determination?
In terms of accomplishment, it's been compared to Stonehenge, ancient Greek temples, and even the great pyramids of Egypt.
