Southern stingray (Dasyatis americana) . This stingray is native to the Caribean and Gulf of Mexico. It has a barbed tail for defense, but is not venomous. Southern stingrays have large, flat, diamond-shaped disks without distinct heads. Their dark-brown upper bodies and white or whitish underbellies are ideal camouflage for animals that spend their days well buried in sand. The southern stingray reaches a maximum disc width of 79 inches (200cm) and weight of 214 lbs (97 kg). Feeding constantly during the day and night on a diet of invertebrates and small fishes. It feeds by flapping the wing-like pectoral fins to disturb the sand and expose the prey. This bottom-dwelling species is often found singly or in pairs, except in the summer months when it migrates in schools to higher latitudes.
Elkhorn coral (Acropora palmata) is a large, branching coral with thick and sturdy antler-like branches. Elkhorn coral was formerly the dominant species in shallow water (3 ft-16 ft (1-5 m) deep) throughout the Caribbean and on the Florida Reef Tract. Colonies are fast growing: branches increase in length by 2-4 inches (5-10 cm) per year, with colonies reaching their maximum size in approximately 10-12 years. Coral reefs are dying from causes largely due to human influences. In the Caribbean populations of the massive Elkhorn coral (Acropora palmata), which historically have been the primary and most ecologically important reef-building coral, have declined from 90 to 99 percent since the mid-1980s.
The Sergeant Major (Abudefduf saxatilis), family Pomacentridae is a large, colourful damselfish. It earns its name from its brightly striped sides, which are reminiscent of the insignia of a military Sergeant Major. It grows to a length of about 15cm (6 inches). Sergeant Major Damsel Fish live in the coral reefs of the Atlantic Ocean. They feed on a variety of food items including algae, small crustaceans, various invertebrate larvae, and fishes. Stomach content analysis reported benthic algae, pelagic algae, and plankton including copepods, shrimp larvae, fish, and pelagic tunicates as specific prey items of this fish.
They are able to find in the reefs or rocky areas where they live. These fish spawn from June to August; adhesive filaments attach a single layer of eggs to the surface of corals. The male guards the nest, which may be 30 cm (12 in) in diameter. They tend to be rather aggressive and may bully other inhabitants of the reef.
The yellowtail snapper, Ocyurus chrysurus, is an abundant species of snapper found along the coast Florida down through the West Indies. Habitat
Adult yellowtail snappers live over sandy areas near deep reefs at depths of 32-230 feet (10-70m), while small adults tend to congregate over hard bottom habitats. Once established, adult yellowtail snapper tend to remain in the same area for long periods of time. This snapper is usually seen well above the substrate, swimming about in small groups. Juveniles reside inshore in seagrass bed nursery areas that offer protection from predation while they mature. Found mainly in tropical waters; spawns in midsummer; rarely exceeds 30 inches and 5 pounds in size; feeds on small fish and invertebrates.

Stoplight Parrotfish (Sparisoma viride) are very common throughout the reef systems of the Florida Keys and the Bahamas. Parrotfish are known for their size and bright colors. The common name, stoplight, comes from the marked yellow spot near the pectoral fin, which is clearly visible only in specimens in the terminal phase. The Stoplight parrotfish is a sex-changing fish inhabiting coral reefs in Florida Keys. The stoplight parrotfish reaches lengths of 22 inches (55 cm) and weights of 3.5 pounds (1.6 kg). Stoplight Parrotfish eat mostly algae but are also known to eat live coral. Their lifespan is approximately 10 years.
