BEGINNING A WALKING PROGRAM

Walking is one of the easiest, most enjoyable, and most profitable forms of exercise. All you need is a good pair of shoes, comfortable clothing, and desire.Walking is a gentle, low-impact exercise that can ease you into a higher level of fitness and health. Walking is one of your body's most natural forms of exercise. Walking helps you sleep better so you can wake up energized and ready for the day.

Walking Meditation

Mindfulness of breathing is a fundamental meditation practice that calms the mind and can be used as a basis from which to explore more subtle mental processes.The most common "action" meditation is walking meditation. As with breathing, walking is something that we do all the time, and hence something we often do without paying much conscious attention.When one is lifting up a foot, one should be aware that one is lifting up one's foot; when one is putting down one's foot, one should be aware that one is putting it down, and when one is turning, be aware that one is turning. This too sounds much easier than it actually is, since this attempt to focus and clear the mind (by focusing on the one's actions alone) will probably generate all sorts of thoughts and feelings. Practicing a form of “mindfulness” meditation meant to bring their attention inward and focus their minds on what is real at the moment, ignoring negative “self-talk”.

• By doing walking meditation, it is possible to attain complete awareness (Arahantship).

• Begin this practice by bringing your attention to the foot.  Mentally noting ‘right, left’ as you do the steps while walking. 

• Keep the eyes half-closed and fixed on the ground 4 to 5 feet ahead of you.

• Do not let the head bend too low, because this will create strain and tension in your posture.

• At the beginning of a walking meditation period note one part only for about 10 minutes: ‘left, right’ and so on. Then note your walking in 3 parts: ‘lifting, pushing, dropping’ etc. Finally increase the noting to ‘intending, lifting, pushing, dropping, touching, pressing’.

• The mind is sure to wander off quite a few times during a walking period of one hour. So do not look around here and there during walking meditation.

Walking ... " in Wildness is the preservation of the World."  I think that I cannot preserve my health and spirits, unless I spend some time each day sauntering through the woods and walking to the shore of the ocean.

The Town of Key Largo is the place to which the roads tend, a sort of expansion
of the waterway, as a lake of a mangrove river. It is the body of which water
are the arms and legs -- a trivial or quadrivial place, the thoroughfare and ordinary of travelers.

Escaping to the Island of Key Largo  - leave the hustle and bustle of the city to enter a world of peaceful mangroves and aqua blue water. Just an hour and a half from Ft. Lauderdale lies two of the most unique and beautiful ecosystems left in Florida - the rockland tropical hardwood hammock and the mangrove/coral reef habitat.
