The skies over Key Largo and the nearby Everglades are famous for their colorful cloud formations. The main quest when we travel the Florida Caribbean is to sit back and enjoy a glass of wine with some Buffett tunes while watching the sunset. The sunset-I find the best ones are where they set directly over the water without land in the way to get the best reflections, or if there is something unique in the picture to compliment the sunset. Of course, every sunset is different and it really comes down to the luck of the draw while there as to how spectacular it is.The best sunsets I' have seen were late November through early May. While we have seen great sunsets during the summer, these were more unusual because of the weather. Prevailing winds from Africa deposit more particles in the air, combined with weather(rain) patterns, all create more haze in the air during the summer months. I'd characterize the sunsets during the summer to be somewhat paler, with pastels and more blues and pinks, with sunsets during the drier months to be more blazingly spectacular, with the full palette of rich tones. There are exceptions, of course, for both times of year.
That being said, I love sunsets, whether they're ablaze with color or more subdued and silvery. And watching them from Key Largo is a decadent treat indeed!
This is beautiful just to think about. A large red ball of fire dropping below the horizon but just before it does it stops just long enough to be even with the gulf of Mexico & give you that image you've been waiting your whole life for.
In the middle of a huge ocean, which is completely isolated hence the word deserted being a derivative of Island. And when the sun sets here, well the colours are truly amazing.
There isn't an experience like watching the sun set on Sunny Day as you sit on the beach looking at Sun in the distance, & reflect upon the day you spent in KEY LARGO.
Now I realize many of you don't realize where the Florida Keys are, or what they are. Well I'll tell you, The Keys are island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, famous for its untouched coral reef, & serene beauty. While the possibility of ever coming here may be a little beyond most people in imagination. The sunsets are amazing.
Everything is beautiful on The island of Key Largo let alone the sunset. After a long day of doing absolutely nothing in the hot sun, a person can come here to relax, sit at a dockside cafe & watch the day turn into nite.
I don't know if anyone reading this has ever seen a picture of the sun setting in Key Largo, but if they have then they surely understand why it takes such a high spot. There aren't many places in the world to see such a sight as a sunset like this.
John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park encompasses 178 nautical square miles of coral reefs, seagrass beds, Hardwood hamacks, and mangrove swamps.

"Kokomo" name, which as a result of the song, implied relaxing fun in the sun. Put on your flip-flops, change your watch to KEYS time. Feel the tropical breeze as you layout on the beach and move to the rhythm of island life. KEY LARGO - Get here fast then take it slow.
The Beach Boys sang about a place like this. A place for bodies in the sand and tropical drinks melting in your hand. A place for afternoon delights and moonlit nights.
Kokomo was supposed to represent all the tropical places and images that people think of when wishing to get away to some paradise island to escape the dreary work life. John Phillips thought the name sounded good and wanted to use it for the title. Mike Love added the "Aruba, Jamaica" part and changed the line "That's where we used to go" to "That's where we want to go."
